Catch a Steamers game at Historic Hicks Field
The Edenton Steamers are a collegiate summer baseball team located in the historical community of Edenton. They compete from May–August in the Coastal Plain League and play their home games at Historic Hicks Field. Hicks Field has been named by Baseball America as one of the top ballparks in the nation for viewing collegiate baseball. Built as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project in the 1930s, the main structure is a wood grandstand with a roof that was built to hold 500 people (total capacity is 1,200). The main grandstand is the oldest remaining wooden grandstand of its type in North Carolina and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The team’s nickname and logo reflect steamed clams.
